Cold Laser Therapy NYC, Low Level Laser Therapy, Manhattan New York City

If you’ve been researching cold, or low level, laser therapy what you’ve probably found is some mixed reviews about it’s efficacy and applications. The main reason for this is that many of the earlier researches were misusing dosages for commonly studied injuries. Basically, researches were using innappropriate dosages and finding that the therapy was ineffecitve, or minimally effective, compared to placebo.

If one takes the time to sort through all the studies and match the dosing to the injuries it would paint quite the opposite picture. If you’d like to learn more about the research being done – and how it supports cold laser therapy for a broad range of injuries and conditions I recommend you check out www.irradia.com as they are the leaders in laser research and applications.

From a clinicians point of view I can tell you that cold laser therapy has been a welcomed addition to our herniated disc treatment program. One of the major components of herniated disc pain, sciatica and the complex of symptoms that accompany this type of spinal injury are a direct result of the inflammatory cascade that arises from ‘leaky’ disc material and the subsequent inflammation of surrounding soft tissues including nerve tissue.

It’s the inflammation of these nerve tissues that creates the debilitating ‘sciatic’ like pain that most people find unbearable. With the addition of the superpulsed 904 probe to our practice we are now able to put the inflammation at bay almost immediately with cold laser therapy.

Since our practice is dedicated to non-surgical and drug-free care this was an integral part of the ‘puzzle’, a missing piece, if you will.

You see anti-inflammatories are the gold standard in medical care because they realize that as long as they reduce the inflammation you will feel better. However, the biggest issue with this approach is that the inflammation didn’t just occur on it’s own – it came from somewhere. Something gave rise to the inflammation in the first place.

To not locate it and correct it is a disservice. Finding the underlying cause of the inflammation *while* addressing the inflammation as well is what we at Midtown Total Health would consider ‘best practices’. If we can treat the inflammation, thus reducing your pain, and at the same time rehabilitate the damaged tissues that are giving rise to the inflammation in the first place your condition will resolve more fully and the chances of a debilitating relapse minimized.

If you’re in pain and would like a thorough, holisitic and non-invasive option for treatment then look no further. Contact us at The Center for Chiropractic & Decompression NYC today.
